Welcome

Mersey Morris has been entertaining the people of Cheshire and Merseyside since 1960, when the Liverpool and Wirral Morris teams decided to merge.

During the summer months, we can be found dancing out on the Wirral and in neighbouring Merseyside and Cheshire. Whether it is a pub on a Monday night or a local community event, you will never be too far from seeing Mersey Morris dancing!!

While during the cold, dark winter months, Mersey Morris meets to practise every Monday night at the Village Hall in Thornton Hough from 8-10pm.

New dancers, men and women of any age, are always welcome. So, if you are interested in having a go at morris dancing, getting some exercise and having some fun, why not come along to a practice or to one of our taster sessions? Or just get in touch!

Dancing and Enjoyment

Mersey Morris is a welcoming team open to all adults. We encourage diversity, equality and inclusion amongst our members, and deliver an environment where all can feel safe, welcomed and respected.

The team regularly practises and promotes the public performance of Morris dancing and other associated folk customs, traditions and activities. We always aim to demonstrate high standards of performance, appearance and demeanour.

‘Morris dancing’ comes in various styles and guises, each originating from different locations in England. Cotswold Morris is the style which Mersey Morris has built its excellent reputation over many years and represents the central core of our repertoire. It is the style that is commonly associated with ‘clashing of sticks’, ‘waving of hankies’ and ‘bells round their legs’! Hopefully, when you watch us perform, you will also associate them with ‘fun’, ‘fitness’ and ‘finesse’!

Throughout the year, Mersey Morris also perform dances from the Border and Molly traditions, together with rapper and longsword dances.

Why not come along to one of our practices or taster sessions and give morris dancing a go? You might just enjoy it!
